The ministry's spokesperson, Khalil al-Daqran, highlighted the day's significance during a press event held at a nurses' sit-in at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah.

"This year's International Nurses Day is exceptional, and it is our right to name this year the Year of Nursing," al-Daqran stated, acknowledging the 138 nurses among the casualties.

He emphasized the dedication of nurses, midwives, and medical teams as the backbone of Palestinian society, honoring their sacrifice in fulfilling their professional duties under dire circumstances.

Al-Daqran's address underscored the staggering toll on medical staff, with 500 fatalities, 1,500 injuries, and 312 detentions, urging global action to safeguard medical workers and institutions. He appealed to international bodies and the World Health Organization for additional medical support in Gaza.

The Israeli aggression on Gaza has killed over 35,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and more than 76,600 injuries. The Israeli brutal military has left Gaza devastated, with essential supplies and medical aid severely restricted.
