IQNA – The Palestinian resistance group, Hamas, has expressed its approval of a resolution adopted by the UN Security Council on ceasefire in Gaza Strip.

UN Security Council on Gaza Ceasefire

In a press statement released on Monday, Hamas voiced its approval, following an overwhelming vote in favor of the resolution by the 15-member council.

Hamas “welcomes what is included in the Security Council resolution that affirmed the permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the complete withdrawal [of the Israeli forces], and the prisoners’ exchange,” reads the statement.

The group also expressed approval for other aspects of the plan, including “the reconstruction [of the Gaza Strip], the return of the displaced to their areas of residence, the rejection of any demographic change or reduction in the area of Gaza, and the delivery of needed aid to our people in the strip.”

The group expressed its “readiness” to “cooperate with the mediators to engage in indirect negotiations on implementing these principles that are consistent with the demands of our people and resistance.”

The Israeli regime unleased the bloody war on Gaza on October 7 after Palestinian resistance groups launched an operation against the entity in response to increased Israeli crimes against Palestinians.

The Israeli aggression has so far killed at least 37,084 Palestinians, most of them women and children, while leaving more than 84,000 others injured. Thousands of people are believed to be buried under the rubble of buildings leveled by Israeli bombs.

Egypt and Qatar have been mediating negotiations for a ceasefire agreement since one was established in November. During this time, Hamas released 105 captives taken during Al-Aqsa Flood Operation. In early May, Hamas agreed to another truce proposal that would halt the aggression and release the remaining captives. However, the proposal was rejected by the Israeli regime.
