IQNA – Egyptian international football player Ahmed Refaat died due to complications following a heart attack.

Egyptian international football player and Quran memorizer Ahmed Refaat dies at 31

Ahmed, who was a memorizer of the Holy Quran, died at the age of 31, according to al-Misry al-Yawm newspaper.

He passed away due to complications following a heart attack he suffered four months ago during a match.

Social media users in the country have reacted to his death with great sadness.

He was from the village of Abshan in Egypt’s Kafr El-Shaikh Governorate.

According to the Quran teacher of the village, Ahmed learned the Quran by heart at the Quran school in Abshan when he was a child.

He said Ahmed supported the school financially after becoming a professional football player.

Refaat, who played as a winger and represented his country seven times, suffered a heart attack in March during a league match against Al-Ittihad Alexandria.

He was rushed to hospital, resuscitated and placed in intensive care for close to a month. He was then fitted with a pacemaker and allowed to leave the hospital with further medical tests scheduled.
