In a message to Sheikh Ihsan al-Liwati, prayer leader of the Shia Mosque in Oman, Ayatollah Sistani denounced the act of terrorism and expressed condolences over the martyrdom of several mourners.
He prayed God to bestow mercy upon the souls of those martyred in the attack and prayed for quick recovery for the injured.
The Daesh Takfiri terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the deadly assault on a group of Shia Muslims near a mosque in Oman, who were commemorating martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shia Imam and the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
Daesh said in a statement late on Tuesday that three of its “assailants” fired on worshippers at the mosque in the Wadi Kabir district of the Omani capital city of Muscat on Monday evening, and exchanged gunfire with Omani security forces until morning.
The group also published what it said was a video of the attack on its Telegram channel.
Another video shared on social media and verified by Reuters news agency showed people running from the mosque while gunfire could be heard.
