IQNA – Israeli regime's far-right minister Itamar Ben-Gvir stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Thursday under the protection of Israeli occupation forces.

'Dangerous Escalation': Israeli Minister Condemned for Storming Al-Aqsa Mosque

Al-Aqsa Mosque, located in the Al-Aqsa compound, is the third holiest site in Islam and is also revered by Jews as the Temple Mount. According to the status quo, non-Muslims may visit the site but are not permitted to pray. However, there have been increasing instances of Jewish visitors defying this ban, which Muslims view as a provocation and a potential attempt by the regime to take over the site.

Ben-Gvir stated that his visit was to pray for the return of Israeli captives “but without a reckless deal, without surrendering.”

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry condemned the visit, stating, “This intrusion is an official Israeli cover for the continuous incursions and schemes aiming at the Judaization of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.”

The ministry said the regime was attempting to impose “forced changes” to the historical and legal status of al-Quds.

Jordan also slammed Ben-Gvir’s visit, calling it “provocative” and stating, “It represents a provocative and condemned step and reflects the extremist Israeli government’s unilateral actions and systematic policies that disregard international laws and Israel's obligations as the occupying power in occupied Jerusalem.”

Hamas described Ben-Gvir’s visit as a “dangerous escalation” and urged the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and the Arab League to “take serious action to stop these systemic violations.”

Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) said the minister has the mosque’s sanctity and criticized the “Islamic and Arab silence” over Israeli actions.

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine warned that Ben-Gvir is “playing with fire” and called for broader mobilization to confront Israeli incursions on holy sites.
