250 Memorizers Partaking in Iraqi Nat’l Quran Competition

IQNA – The 8th edition of a national Quran memorization competition is underway in the holy city of Karbala, Iraq.

The Dar-ol-Quran Center affiliated to the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine has organized the contest in cooperation with Al-Zahra University, as part of the national Quran memorization initiative. 

It began on Saturday and will run until Tuesday, July 30.

Karrar al-Shamari, who is in charge of the center’s media office, said a number of Quranic figures and religious personalities attended the opening ceremony.

He said 250 memorizers are competing in two separate sections for men and women.

They are from different governorates of the Arab country, al-Shammari noted.

They vie for the top prize in the categories of memorization of the entire Quran, memorization of 20 Juzes (parts) and memorization of ten Juzes, he stated.

The national Quran memorization initiative has been organized by the Dar-ol-Quran Center in different parts of Iraq, helping many to learn the Holy Book by heart.
