Haniyeh, the head of political bureau of the Hamas resistance movement, was martyred in an attack on his residence in Tehran early on Wednesday.
The funeral prayer was performed on Thursday morning at the University of Tehran.
Iranian political and military officials, a number of commanders of the resistance, family members of Haniyeh, and a large number of people attended the funeral prayer ritual.
After the Salat al-Mayyit, Ayatollah Khamenei recited Surah al-Fatiha and bade farewell to the resistance figure.
In a message on Wednesday, the Leader said the Israeli regime will face a “severe punishment” for assassinating Haniyeh.
“The courageous and prominent Palestinian leader, Mr. Ismail Haniyeh, passed away at dawn last night, and the great resistance front is in mourning. The criminal and terrorist Zionist regime martyred our esteemed guest in our home, causing us great sorrow, however, it also set the stage for a severe punishment for itself,” Ayatollah Khamenei said in the message.
“Martyr Haniyeh dedicated his life to the honorable struggle for many years, always prepared for martyrdom; he sacrificed his children and family for this cause,” Ayatollah Khamenei added.
“He was unafraid of becoming a martyr in the service of God and saving His servants, however, we see it as our duty to avenge his blood in this tragic incident that occurred on the territory of the Islamic Republic,” he stressed.
