‘Terrorist’ Israeli Regime Will Face ‘Severe Punishment’, Leader Says After Haniyeh Assassination
“The courageous and prominent Palestinian leader, Mr. Ismail Haniyeh, passed away at dawn last night, and the great resistance front is in mourning. The criminal and terrorist Zionist regime martyred our esteemed guest in our home, causing us great sorrow, however, it also set the stage for a severe punishment for itself,” Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said in a Wednesday message.
The statement came after Haniyeh was assassinated in a strike in Tehran earlier in the day. Iranian authorities announced that further details about the assassination will be announced later.
“Martyr Haniyeh dedicated his life to the honorable struggle for many years, always prepared for martyrdom; he sacrificed his children and family for this cause,” Ayatollah Khamenei added.

“He was unafraid of becoming a martyr in the service of God and saving His servants, however, we see it as our duty to avenge his blood in this tragic incident that occurred on the territory of the Islamic Republic,” he stressed.
“I extend my condolences to the Islamic Ummah, the resistance front, the brave and proud nation of Palestine, and especially to the family and survivors of Martyr Haniyeh and his companion who was martyred alongside him. I pray to God Almighty to elevate their ranks,” he added.
Haniyeh was in Tehran to attend the inauguration ceremony of Iranian president-elect Masoud Pezeshkian.
Iran will make Israeli regime regret the assassination: Pezeshkian
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also issued a message, noting that the assassination will further consolidate the bond between the two nations, noting that the path of resistance will continue stronger than ever.
Pezeshkian made the remark in a post on his X social media account on Wednesday.
Today, Iran is mourning “the all-time and proud follower of the path of resistance, the brave leader of the Palestinian resistance, the martyr of al-Quds, Haj Ismail Haniyeh,” said part of the message.
“Yesterday, I raised his victorious hand and today I should carry him on my shoulders,” Pezeshkian further wrote, adding, “The bond between the two proud nations of Iran and Palestine will be stronger than ever, and the path of resistance and protection of the oppressed will be followed stronger than ever.”
The Iranian president underlined, “The Islamic Republic of Iran will defend its territorial integrity, honor and dignity, and make the terrorist occupiers regret their cowardly act.”
