IQNA – Muhammad Naquib Ajmal Mohd Jamal Nasir, a 26-year-old who was diagnosed with autism, successfully graduated on Monday with a Bachelor's degree in Quranic Studies and Sunnah from Universiti Islam Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah (UNIPSAS).

Despite the challenges posed by his condition, Naquib not only completed his studies but also received a special award during the university's 21st convocation ceremony, Bernama reported.

Expressing his gratitude, Naquib highlighted the support of his parents and educators as key to his achievements. "If I didn’t have their support, I most probably would not have graduated and won this award today… truly grateful and thankful," said Naquib, who currently serves as an instructor at the Akademi Syahadah Tahfiz Al-Faizin in Kuala Selangor.

Throughout his academic journey, Naquib faced difficulties managing his time between practicing Quranic recitation, tajwid, and reviewing the 30 Juzes (chapters) of the Quran that he memorized during his teenage years. Despite these challenges, he remained committed to his studies and Quranic memorization.

"I strive to learn like everyone else. Time is the main constraint for studying while also participating in memory competitions, but I try to organize and balance my time well... After this, I aspire to participate in recitation competitions," Naquib shared, emphasizing his dedication to both academic and spiritual growth.

Reflecting on their son’s journey, Naquib's parents, Mohd Jamal Nasir Ismail and Anita Elias, recalled the early challenges they faced after his autism diagnosis at the age of seven.

"Back then, he made no eye contact and was slow in speech; my child could only speak Malay at the age of nine, but not fluently. However, he knew more words in English and Arabic," Anita, an Islamic Education teacher, recounted.

"When he was still small, the doctor told us that (Muhammad) Naquib had an excellent memory and thank God he can now memorize the Quran," she added, expressing her gratitude for her son's remarkable memory and accomplishments.
