The opening ceremony was held at the World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur with participation of the contestants, Malaysian officials, and crowds of public.
The contestants include 53 qaris and 39 memorizers competing in their respective categories.
The competition, themed "Al-Falah (holistic success) Drives Malaysia Madani," runs from October 5 to 12.
The opening ceremony included a recital by five-time champion Malaysian reciter Rahmas Abdullah and a nasyid performance by the Malaysian Armed Forces Religious Corps (Kagat).

Addressing the opening ceremony, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim highlighted the importance of unity and wisdom.
"Narrow-minded thinking will sink us. At the same time, rash and unwise thinking will become a challenge for us," he said, Bernama reported.
He stressed the need for understanding, patience, and wisdom in decision-making, particularly in light of the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza.
Malaysia’s international Quran competition is annually organized in the country’s capital of Kuala Lumpur by the country's Department of Islamic Development (JAKIM).
