Medhat Saleh Quran recitation

The official page of the Egyptian network On posted a video on its X account featuring a young Medhat Saleh. The video shows him reciting the Quran after winning first place in the "Quran Rabbi" competition, Egyptian media outlets reported on Thursday.

In the video, Saleh recites verses from Surah Al-Hashr in the style of the renowned Egyptian qari Sheikh Mahmoud Khalil Al-Hussary.

Medhat Saleh has previously discussed this video in press interviews, stating that he learned the Quran at a young age in traditional schools and memorized it under the guidance of the sheikhs of that time. He also learned Arabic calligraphy, decorations, and various sports such as basketball, swimming, and volleyball in these schools.

"Traditional schools were like modern schools where children were uniformly educated, and that period formed a significant part of their character," he said then.

Saleh mentioned that his father had hoped he would become a Quran qari before he became a singer. He expressed his love for the voices of qaris like Abdul Basit Abdul Samad and Mustafa Ismail from a young age, and considered Sheikh Mahmoud Khalil Al-Hussary a spiritual father.

He added, "One of my primary school teachers, who was a friend of my father, discovered my talent in singing and playing music and introduced me to Ahmed Abdel Qader, who performed religious chants, when I was nine years old."

Medhat Saleh is also known for creating religious songs, especially during Ramadan.
