IQNA – The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesman denied reports about the evacuation of the country’s embassy in the Syrian capital.

Esmaeil Baghaei said on Saturday that these reports are untrue, according to the Foreign Ministry’s website.

“The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Damascus continues its operations,” he added.

Earlier, some media reports claimed that with the advance of terrorist groups toward Damascus, Iran had evacuated its embassy in the city.

Syria has been gripped by foreign-sponsored militancy since March 2011, with Damascus saying the Western states and their regional allies are aiding terrorist groups to wreak havoc in the Arab country.

In recent days, the foreign-backed Hayat Tahrir al-Sham armed group has captured a number of cities in the Arab country.
