IQNA – In a tragic accident, Suad Rajab Al-Mazin, a young Quran memorizer from Egypt, and her mother lost their lives on Wednesday, December 11, while returning from the preliminary round of the 8th International Port Said Quran Competition.

The accident occurred as they were traveling back to their hometown in Al-Buhaira Governorate.

The Egyptian Minister of Awqaf, Osama Al-Azhari, along with other ministry officials, expressed their condolences in separate messages. The Minister also ordered a payment of 25,000 Egyptian pounds to the family of the deceased.

Adel Moselhi, the executive director and chief supervisor of the Port Said International Quran Competition, confirmed the heartbreaking news, stating that several other participants and their parents were injured in the accident.

He noted that Suad Rajab Al-Mazin had impressed the judges with her melodious recitation and was considered a strong contender for the final round of the competition.

The 8th edition of the Port Said international Quran contest, named after renowned Egyptian qari late Muhammad Sidiq Minshawi, will be held in the northern port city in February 2025.
