Luton’s Muslim Community Raises Over £5,000 for Winter Food Campaign
The initiative, organized with assistance from Inspire FM, saw 13 mosques across the town unite for a special Friday collection to fund food donations.
Salma Khan, director of operations at Luton Foodbank, described the donations as "truly amazing and heart-warming."
She noted that while the Muslim community has consistently supported the charity, this year marked unprecedented collaboration among local mosques.
"This is the first time so many mosques have united to support us," Khan said.
The funds have already made a significant impact, helping the foodbank ensure enough donations for the festive season and into early January, she added.
She also highlighted the financial strain that Christmas can impose on families with limited resources, as they face pressures to spend on gifts, food, and heating.
The contributions, she said, will provide critical relief during this challenging time.

Mohammed Tariq of Inspire FM commended the collective effort of the mosques, emphasizing the importance of such acts of generosity. "This act of unity and generosity truly reflects their core values," he said.
Maqsood Anwar of Madinah Masjid shared that their mosque has supported Luton Foodbank for over a decade and remains committed to helping.
Similarly, Allama Qazi Abdul Aziz Chisti MBE underscored the religious significance of the initiative, stating, "Feeding the hungry is one of our duties as Muslims."
Elizabeth Stringer, chairman of Luton Foodbank, expressed gratitude for the increased support, especially during a period when demand for foodbanks continues to rise.
"With higher numbers of people using the foodbank, all contributions will help with food distribution throughout the colder months," she said.
The funds raised will help stock the foodbank with essential items, providing relief to families struggling to make ends meet during the winter.
