Awqaf Minister Highlights Algeria’s Achievements in Quran Teaching

IQNA – The religious affairs and Awqaf minister of Algeria underscored the country’s successes in the field of Quranic education.

Youcef Belmehdi stated that Algeria has taken significant steps to improve Quran education and to utilize modern tools and technologies for teaching the Book of God.

He was speaking during visits to a number of Quranic and religious centers in Naama Province, al-Masa website reported.

He stressed the government’s efforts to support and expand Quranic educational institutions, religious schools, and Maktabs (traditional Quran schools) to create a spiritual environment, promote Islamic behavior, and provide education and serve the Book of God.

Belmehdi noted that the number of students at Quranic education centers has surpassed 1.2 million boys and girls, and emphasized the support of the country’s senior officials for the development of the Quranic education system.

He also said the ministry is engaged in Quran education at the university level, encouraging Quran students, organizing government recitation programs, and discovering outstanding and qualified reciters through various national and international events and competitions in memorization, recitation, and interpretation of the Quran.

The Algerian official highlighted the role of imams of mosques in fostering awareness among generations to preserve the homeland, take pride in achievements, and appreciate historical and religious values. He viewed this as a reflection of the Algerian people's commitment to their national religious values.

He went on to say that mosques continue to play an important role in strengthening cultural and religious values, as well as fostering social cohesion, while educational charitable organizations also have a significant role in this endeavor.
