IQNA – A plot by the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorist group to plant bombs in the holy Shrine of Hazrat Zainab (SA) in Syria has been foiled.

Daesh elements reportedly planning to plant bombs in the holy Shrine of Hazrat Zainab (PBUH) have been arrested in Syria.

A source in the Syrian Intelligence Service announced that it has managed to thwart the plot in cooperation with the security department in the suburb of Damascus where the holy mausoleum is located, SANA reported.

An operation carried out by the two organizations led to the arrest of 8 individuals who were involved in planning a major criminal act targeting the Syrian nation, the source added.

“We emphasize that the General Intelligence Service of Syria is utilizing all its capabilities to stand against all efforts targeting the Syrian nation,” the source went on to say.

SANA has released images of individuals arrested on suspicion of involvement in the bombing plot.

Militants, led by HTS, took control of Damascus on December 8 and declared an end to Bashar al-Assad’s rule in a surprise offensive that was launched from their stronghold in northwestern Syria, reaching the capital in less than two weeks.
