Mecca Int’l Quran Competition for Armed Forces Wraps Up

IQNA – The closing ceremony of the 10th international Quran competition for military personnel was held in the holy city of Mecca.

Lieutenant-General Fayyad bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili, Chief of General Staff of the Saudi Armed Forces announced the winners of the competition at the ceremony on Sunday night, al-Madinah reported.

In an address, Musfer bin Hassan Al-Eisa, Director General of the Religious Affairs Department of the Saudi Armed Forces and chief supervisor of the competition, referred to his country’s efforts to promote Quran memorization and the teaching of Quranic concepts.

He said the competition gave the armed forces of different countries to compete in memorization and recitation of the Quran.

He also noted that 170,000 copies of the Holy Book were distributed among the countries participating in the contest.

The winners, members of the panel of judges and those selected as figures serving the Holy Quran were honored at the conclusion of the ceremony.

The 10th edition of the competition was attended by 179 Quran memorizers from 32 countries.

It included six categories: complete Quran memorization with recitation and tajweed, memorization of 20, 10, five, and three sections of the Quran with recitation and tajweed, as well as a category for the most beautiful recitation with tajweed.

Participants stayed in Mecca and Medina, where they visited historical and religious sites.

Their performances were evaluated using an electronic system called “Insaaf.”
