Registration Begins for Ramadan Volunteers Willing to Serve at Grand Mosque, Prophet’s Mosque

IQNA – Registration has begun for volunteers wishing to serve worshippers and pilgrims at the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina during Ramadan.

Applications for engaging in volunteerism in the two holy mosques are accepted from males and females in coordination between the Presidency of Religious Affairs for the Two Holy Mosques and the Ministry of Human Resources.

Head of the Presidency of Religious Affairs Sheikh Abdulrahman Al Sudais said the state agency has drawn up integrated programs for voluntary works during the lunar month of Ramadan, expected this year to begin on Saturday, to attract volunteers to serve worshippers in both sacred mosques.

“The opening of volunteering in the Two Holy Mosques is inspired by the lofty status of volunteering in Islam,” he added.

The presidency, the official said, has set up a database to facilitate identifying volunteer opportunities, work needs, and receiving requests via an electronic platform in such volunteer fields as guidance, awareness promotion, religious affairs, media, technical fields, row management, and translation.

Ramadan traditionally marks the peak season of the Umrah or minor pilgrimage in the Grand Mosque amid stepped-up preparations from Saudi authorities to cope with the expected influx of worshippers.

The current season of Umrah, which can be undertaken around the year, began in late June after the end of the annual Hajj pilgrimage.

Many pilgrims also head to the Prophet’s Mosque, the second holiest place, and visit other Islamic landmarks in Medina.
