In a message issued on Sunday, the first day of Ramadan in Iran and several other Muslim-majority countries, Pezeshkian called for Muslim unity during this sacred period.
“With the blessings of this holy month and with the collective efforts of the leaders of Muslim countries, we will witness the expansion and strengthening of cooperation among Muslim countries and greater efforts to reduce the suffering of the Palestinian people, including the oppressed people of Gaza and Lebanon," President Pezeshkian wrote.
The holy month of Ramadan, marked by fasting, prayer, and spiritual reflection, is being observed by Muslims worldwide.
Watch:
The start of Ramadan varies between countries due to differences in lunar calculations and moon sightings. While Saudi Arabia and several Arab nations began their observance on Saturday, Iran, Morocco, and other countries commenced the month on Sunday.
Throughout Ramadan, Muslims abstain from food and drink from dawn until sunset. The month is also characterized by increased communal prayers in mosques and the practice of breaking fast in gatherings with family and friends.
