IQNA – The president of the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS) denounced a recent incident in India where a Muslim school principal was attacked on a train.

IUMS Chief Sheikh Ali Qaradaghi

Sheikh Ali al-Qaradaghi described the incident as a clear violation of human values and a serious threat to social peace.

The elderly Muslim man was brutally assaulted by some men last week when he was going from Rajasthan’s Gangapur city to Gujarat’s Ankleshwar for collecting donations for his madrassa (religious school).

The elderly man was attacked as he was reading the Quran.

Sheikh al-Qaradaghi said the incident reflects the escalation of extremism and attacks on Muslims in India.

He called on the New Delhi government to fulfil its responsibility of protecting citizens regardless of their faith, stressing that tolerating such crimes would threaten the fabric of the Indian society and weaken the principles of peaceful coexistence established by India’s great leaders.

The IUMS chief also called for launching an investigation into the attack and bringing the perpetrators to justice in order to prevent the recurrence of such incidents that spread hate and harm civil peace.

He also addressed Muslims in India and other parts of the world, calling for adherence to the wisdom and high morals of Islam when facing these challenges.
