“For this reason, despite the significant geographical distance between Iran and Indonesia, these two Muslim countries are united by the blessings of the Holy Quran,” said Shakernejad, who has recently been appointed as Iran’s international Quran ambassador.
He made the remark at a Quranic gathering held at Al-Azhar Mosque in Indonesia.
The program, organized collaboratively by Iran’s Islamic Culture and Relations Organization, the Cultural Attaché of the Iranian Embassy in Indonesia, and the Mahfel TV Show, aimed to develop cultural diplomacy centered around the Holy Quran.
It began with recitation of verses from the Holy Book by Ahmad Abolqassemi, another eminent Iranian qari.
Then Shakernejad took the podium, saying “The holy month of Ramadan is the month of the Quran and an opportunity to deepen our connection with this divine book. I pray that no one leaves this gathering without gaining greater awareness, understanding, and insight into the Quran and its teachings.”
He added that the Holy Quran is a book that shapes humanity.
One of the artistic aspects of the Holy Quran is its recitation, which ultimately should lead to understanding and spirituality, he stated.
“For this reason, gathering in Quranic assemblies provides an opportunity for reflection and deep contemplation of the concepts within this great book.”
He further emphasized that Muslims can come together and strengthen their friendship and brotherhood by relying on Quranic concepts.
He also said that the “Mahfel” TV show in Iran has been broadcast in various languages for three years, featuring prominent Indonesian reciters.
“This program is considered one of the historic programs of Iranian television and plays a significant role in promoting Quranic culture,” according to Shakernejad.
He highlighted the Iranian people’s devotion to the Holy Quran, saying that one of the missions of the Mahfel TV show is to connect with Quranic communities around the world.
“I have been appointed as the first Quranic ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran by the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization. In this capacity, our presence here is aimed at carrying out Quranic diplomacy to bring our hearts closer to the Quran,” he stressed.

Shakernejad also emphasized Indonesia’s special position in the Islamic world, adding, “Indonesia holds a place in our minds and hearts. We recognize this country as one of the influential Quranic nations in the Islamic world. Talented reciters from Indonesia have always been an inspiration, and the world has benefited from their art of recitation.”
He went on to say, “As Quranic ambassadors, we deeply love the people of Indonesia and are happy that you have welcomed us among you.”
Shakernejad and Abolqassemi, are also set to participate in one of the largest Quranic programs at Indonesia’s iconic Istiqlal Mosque.
Scheduled for March 16, this event brings together prominent figures from the Southeast Asian country and fosters interfaith cultural engagement.
