Given the country’s population of 85 million, this quota is not sufficient to meet the needs of applicants, and diplomatic and technical consultations with the Saudi side should be seriously pursued to increase it, said Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Abdol Fattah Navab, the Leader’s representative in Hajj and pilgrimage affairs.

He made the remark in a gathering of Hajj pilgrims from Qom Province, held at the Payambar Azam Stadium in Qom on Friday.

He referred to the measures taken to increase the capacity to dispatch pilgrim and said in order to better accommodate those eager to visit the House of God, the number of staff and clergy in the Hajj convoys has been reduced while maintaining the quality of services.

He also announced the preparation of two special convoys for Iranian pilgrims residing abroad for this year’s Hajj and said the necessary planning has been carried out in cooperation with relevant organizations.

According to the official, currently, more than one million Iranians are waiting in line to be sent to the land of revelation for the Hajj pilgrimage.
