IQNA – A large explosion at Shahid Rajaee Port in southern Iran on Saturday left hundreds injured and caused significant damage, according to local officials.

Emergency teams responded quickly to the scene to contain the situation.

The Hormozgan Emergency Department reported that at least 561 individuals were injured after the explosion.

The injured were transported to hospitals across Hormozgan Province for treatment.

Hossein Abbasnejad, director general of Hormozgan’s crisis management department, stated that the blast was extremely powerful. However, he noted that the exact cause of the explosion has not yet been determined and that an investigation is currently underway.

Following the explosion, port operations were temporarily suspended as security and emergency personnel worked to secure the area.

Hospitals in the provincial capital, Bandar Abbas, were placed on high alert to manage potential mass casualties.

Shahid Rajaee Port, located near the Strait of Hormuz, is Iran’s largest and most important container port, handling a major share of the country’s imports and exports. It plays a crucial role in Iran’s international trade and maritime transport network.
