According to Dar al-Maaref, Egyptian Awqaf Minister Osama al-Azhari confirmed that the event would take place in the Islamic month of Jumada al-Thani 1447, corresponding with mid-December this year.
He also announced his formal approval to name this year’s edition of the competition in honor of Anwar.
Shahat Anwar, who passed away in 2008, was widely known for his powerful and emotionally resonant Quranic recitations. His voice inspired generations of Muslims across the globe, and his style remains a reference point for students and reciters of the Quran.

This year’s competition will feature a range of categories focusing on Quran memorization and recitation, including interpretation, Tajwid, and the historical context of the verses. Specific categories are also included for non-Arabic speakers, individuals with disabilities, and Quran-focused families.
Egypt’s international Quran competition is held annually and brings together top Quran reciters and memorizers from across the globe.
