The registration began today and will run until June 24, the council said.
Interested Quran reciters, Tarteel reciters, and Tawasheeh groups can sign up via the website of the Arbaeen Central Headquarters to become part of this year’s Arbaeen Quranic Convoy after the selection process.
The final list of these selected to be part of the delegation will be announced in late June.
Mohammad Mojani, an official with the Arbaeen Cultural-Educational Committee, told IQNA that as the body responsible for the cultural activities of the Arbaeen Headquarters, it organizes a variety of programs every year, with one of the most important being Quranic activities.
He said Iranian Quranic Convoys have participated in the Arbaeen procession for nearly ten years, holding Quranic programs on the path of pilgrims and in the cities of Najaf and Karbala during the Arbaeen season.
This year, the convoy will be sent to Iraq for in two groups, each staying in the Arab country for six days, he noted.
The members of Iran’s Quranic Convoy perform different Quranic and religious programs, including recitation of the Quran, Adhan (call to prayers), and Tawasheeh on the road between Najaf and Karbala during the Arbaeen march.
The Arbaeen mourning ceremony is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world.
It marks the 40th day after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), Imam Hussein (AS). This year’s Arbaeen is expected to fall on August 14, depending on the moonsighting.
Each year, a huge crowd of Shias flock to Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites.
The pilgrims, mainly from Iraq and Iran, travel long routes on foot to the holy city.
