Iran Air will deploy Airbus aircraft to transport Hajj pilgrims back from Saudi Arabia, with the repatriation operation set to begin this Wednesday, according to the airline’s public relations director.
Zahra Bakhtiari stated on Monday that the first return flight would arrive at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport at 1:00 PM local time on June 11.
“On the first day, nine flights will operate from Jeddah and Taif airports to three Iranian destinations: Tehran, Yazd, and Sari,” Bakhtiari said.
She noted that initial operations would see 16 daily flights from Saudi Arabia to Iran.
“We’re using wide-body Airbus aircraft for pilgrim transport, with all necessary facilities prepared, including special accommodations for ill passengers,” she added.
This year’s Hajj transportation saw over 80% of Iranian pilgrims flown by Iran Air from 22 domestic airports, with the remaining 20% using Saudi carrier Flynas, Bakhtiari noted.
