Major General Hossein Salami, the commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was assassinated in a series of Israeli airstrikes launched early Friday across several Iranian cities, including the capital, Tehran. Iranian state broadcaster IRIB confirmed his martyrdom.
The strikes also reportedly resulted in the martydom of other senior IRGC officials and veteran nuclear scientists, including Mohammad-Mehdi Tehranchi and Fereydoon Abbasi. Both individuals were prominent figures in Iran’s nuclear research and academic circles.
The Israeli regime confirmed it carried out targeted attacks inside Iran.
Explosions were reported in various cities, with footage and photos circulating on social media showing damaged houses and emergency response efforts. While official casualty numbers have not yet been released, concerns are growing over the potential for high civilian impact.
No formal statement has been issued by the Iranian military at the time of reporting.
