Qom-based scholar Hojat-ol-Islam Mahdi Farmanian, a professor of religions and sects, addressed the issue of Arab world personalities’ reactions to the recent Israeli war on Iran at a specialized session titled “The World and the Iran‑Israel War,” held on June 23 at the University of Qom.
He noted that the spiritual leader of Daesh released lectures entitled “Has the Rejectionist (Shia) Come to You?”, later circulated online in book form, in which Shia Muslims were alleged to be “Jews in disguise” who, over the past 1,400 years, worked alongside unbelievers to destroy Islam. Farmanian emphasized that such views were not isolated, but echoed among other prominent Muslim figures.
Farmanian argued that Palestine remains the crucial bridge between Iran and the Arab world. He stated that since Operation True Promise III began, many former critics of the Islamic Republic have voiced their support.
He shared observations from Hajj pilgrims still in Mecca, noting that “Wahhabi Saudis are now treating Iranian pilgrims more respectfully.”

He clarified that many Wahhabis distinguish between the house of Saud and orthodox Wahhabi beliefs, believing that rulers should be quietly corrected—not publicly criticized.
He pointed out examples of unexpected public support: the imam of Masjid al-Haram issued a tweet praising Iran’s strike on Israel, and the imam of Masjid an-Nabawi led a six‑minute prayer victory for Iran over Israel.
According to Farmanian, “This global perspective on the Shia did not exist from the time of the Islamic Revolution until this operation,” creating a "unique opportunity" for unity.
Farmanian went on to assert that many Arab leaders secretly back Iran. He noted that Oman’s Grand Mufti issued statements supporting the True Promise operations, and the international leadership of the Muslim Brotherhood—one of the largest Sunni political-religious organizations in the Arab world—publicly endorsed Operation True Promise III.
He also highlighted grassroots demonstrations across Tunisia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and African countries.
He cautioned that this emerging pro-Iran, pro-Palestine sentiment among Muslims worldwide should not be wasted. He urged Iran to strengthen Arab-language media channels to shape public perception, moving beyond emotional reactions toward influencing global thinking over time.
