IQNA – Five Israeli troops were killed and at least 14 others injured—two of them critically—during an overnight operation by Palestinian resistance forces in the northern Gaza Strip, according to military reports.

The incident occurred late Monday night in the city of Beit Hanoun, where members of the Israeli military’s Netzah Yehuda Battalion were conducting ground operations on foot.

According to a statement released by the Israeli military on Tuesday, the soldiers “were hit by a bomb planted on the side of a road shortly after 10 p.m. (1900 GMT).” The military noted that the unit was operating outside of vehicles at the time of the blast.

The statement also confirmed that the situation escalated when resistance fighters obstructed evacuation efforts. “The evacuation became complicated and prolonged, and additional rescue forces were called,” the military said.

This latest attack is one of the deadliest in recent weeks and reflects the increasingly complex tactics being employed by Palestinian fighters amid Israel’s months-long genocidal war in Gaza.

The operation in Beit Hanoun came just days after the Al-Quds Brigades—the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad movement—claimed responsibility for a large-scale ambush in Gaza City’s Shuja'iyyah neighborhood.

According to the group, that earlier operation resulted in the death or injury of at least 40 Israeli troops. The ambush reportedly targeted Israeli forces who had taken up positions inside residential buildings, signaling a shift toward urban guerrilla warfare tactics.

The Israeli regime unleashed its genocidal campaign against the besieged Gaza Strip in October 2023 after resistance forces launched Operation Al-Aqsa Flood.

More than 57,500 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed as a result of the Israeli onslaught, supported militarily and diplomatically by Western countries.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza is dire as the regime has tightened its nearly two-decade-old siege, reducing the flow of aid supplies into the territory to barely a trickle and using starvation as a method of warfare.
