Speaking at a press conference in Tehran on Monday, Hamid Majidimehr noted that the final round of the competition (in the recitation and memorization categories) will get underway in the southwestern city of Ahvaz on January 12.
The inauguration ceremony will be held at Imam Reza (AS) Hall in the city at 3 PM and the closing ceremony is slated for January 18, he noted.
According to the official, the contenders in the two categories will compete in the morning and afternoon sessions.
There will be 181 men and women competing in two separate sections in the finals, he stated.
He said the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) in Khuzestan Province will offer the full live coverage of the Quranic event.
A number of other bodies like Ahvaz Municipality and the Culture and Islamic Guidance Department of Khuzestan Province are cooperating with the Awqaf Organization in holding the finals, he noted.
Majidimehr added that a number of Quranic circles will be organized in the province on the sidelines of the competition.
Several internationally-acclaimed qaris of the country such as Hamed Shakernejad, Hamed Esmailzadeh, Hamid Reza Moqaddasi, Qassem Moqaddami and Seyed Javad Hosseini will recite the Quran in the programs, he went on to say.
The Islamic Republic of Iran’s National Quran Competition is annually held by the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization with the participation of top Quran activists from across the country.
It is aimed at discovering Quranic talents and promoting Quranic activities in society.
