LONDON (IQNA) – The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB), the largest umbrella body of Muslims in the UK, has condemned the Home Secretary's remarks on the recent pro-Palestinian protests in the country.

In a statement released on Thursday, the MCB said that Suella Braverman's comments, published in her article in the Times, were "inflammatory" and "deeply concerning."

The council stressed that hundreds of thousands of Britons would march peacefully in London this weekend, slamming Braverman for "mislabeling" the peaceful marchers as "hate marches" and attendees as "mobs."

"Her comments are deliberately stoking community tensions and embolden those who incite hatred and violence against peaceful citizens," reads the statement, pointing to a "dramatic rise" in Islamophobic incidents this month.

It noted that the minister's use of "divisive languages ... risks tearing communities apart."

"Her comments, along with irresponsible reporting in the right-wing press, are creating a climate for further attacks to occur," it added.

It also strongly slammed the ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, calling for an immediate ceasefire.

The statement comes as cities across the UK have seen mass demonstrations in the past weekends in condemnation of Israeli crimes in the Gaza Strip.

The occupation regime started the relentless bombing campaign of the besieged territory since October 7, after Palestinian resistance group Hamas launched a surprise operation codenamed Al-Aqsa Flood against occupied territories that killed 1,400 Israeli soldiers and settlers.

The Israeli attacks have claimed lives of at least 10,800 Palestinians, mostly women and children, leaving thousands more injured. The aggression has also displaced more than 1.5 million people in Gaza.
