TEHRAN (IQNA) – The hearts of unbelievers and hypocrites do not tear or split or fall but become hard like iron, trampling on the truth and choosing falsehood while they are aware of the futility of what they are doing.

A stone heart

God says in Verse 74 of Surah Al-Baqarah:

“Yet after that your hearts became as hard as rock or even harder. Indeed among the stones are those from which rivers burst. And others split so that water issues from them; and others crash down through fear of Allah. Allah is not inattentive of what you do.”

It is an interesting allegory, likening the hearts of unbelievers to rocks and even harder than rocks, and then pointing out reasons why rocks are even better than their hearts.

One reason is that rocks split to give way to streams to flow and the stream cleans them. There are other rocks that fall down for fear of God.
