Egypt’s Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mukhtar Gomaa

Egypt’s Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mukhtar Gomaa, in a trip to the port city on Saturday, said the international competition would be the major Quranic event of the country in 2024.

He noted that it will be organized in the categories of Quran memorization and Ibtihal recitation, Al-Ahram daily reported.

This edition of the competition is named after late Sheikh Shahat Muhammad Anwar, one of Egypt’s top qaris renowned across the Muslim world.

It will run through February 6 with the participation of representatives from more than 60 countries.

During a meeting with prayer leaders of Port Said mosques, Gomaa suggested that on the sidelines of the international event, a local Quran competition should be organized for the people of the city as well.

Egypt held its 30th international Quran competition at the Dar-ul-Quran Center of the Masjid Misr, the country’s new administrative capital, from December 23 to 26.
