“Living a life guided by the Quran is truly beyond words; the tranquility it brings to one’s life is ineffable,” the 56-year-old qari told IQNA in an exclusive interview.
“In times of fatigue and despair, which are inherent to all living beings, we turn to the Quran for solace,” he said, adding that the remembrance of Ahl al-Bayt (AS), recitation of the Quran, and contemplation on its verses provide immense comfort.
Karim Mansouri, who is now a qari and muezzin at the Holy Shrine of Imam Ali (AS) in Najaf, noted that the Quran eliminates despair.
“The Quran has opened a new chapter for us, enabling us to understand other nations. It imparts knowledge about the past, present, and future,” he said, adding, “As Amir al-Mu’minin (AS) stated, the Quran informs us about the past to educate us, about the present to guide us, and about the future to instill hope as it assures us of the reality of resurrection.”
The Quran has clarified the three aspects of time that were previously obscure to mankind, said the qari. “Anyone who truly comprehends these teachings will no longer feel emptiness, disappointment, or exhaustion, for they know that their purpose is righteous, and there is a God who sees and knows all.”
He noted that there are several elements that influence how closely people connect with the Quran.
Watch:
“The primary obstacle that hinders us from embracing the Quran is the profound tragedy of sin. Sin represents darkness and a dead end, while the Quran symbolizes light,” he said. “These two are incompatible.”
“Therefore, if a sin is committed, we should promptly cleanse it with tears, sorrow, and repentance, paving the way for a deeper understanding of the Quran and fostering a closer relationship with it,” Mansouri added.
He advised those who are fond of understanding the Quran to delve into its interpretation. They should “memorize the Quran, for the joy derived from memorization is not found in mere recitation,” he added.
If one memorizes the Quran and applies its teachings throughout their life, they secure a fulfilling existence, Mansouri said.
“Don’t lose heart in this endeavor,” he noted, citing a prominent Muslim scholar who managed to memorize the Quran in his nineties.
“The joy in memorization is not found in recitation, and the joy in interpretation is not in memorization or recitation. Ultimately, the joy in living by the Quran surpasses all these,” highlighted the qari.
“When we incorporate God into every aspect of our lives, life becomes so delightful that it’s beyond description,” he said.
“The issue lies within us, and it’s up to us to make the necessary changes. The more we strive to improve ourselves, the more blessings we receive from the Quran and Ahl al-Bayt (AS),” he added.
Elsewhere, he said that his deepest desire is to remain a Quran teacher forever.
“I am guided by the Prophet’s (PBUH) saying, ‘The best among you are those who learn the Quran and teach it to others’; this is my ultimate aspiration,” he added.
A teacher who imparts the teachings of the Quran and shares them with others becomes “the best among you,” he elaborated, adding that it is indeed a “significant achievement” for a Quran teacher.
“For us, who have nothing but the Quran, transmitting its teachings to the next generation and maintaining our respect for the Prophet (PBUH) and the Quran is the greatest honor we can attain,” he said.
