Memorial Services Held for President Raisi in Different Countries

IQNA – Ceremonies continue to be held in different countries in commemoration of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his companions who were killed in a recent helicopter crash.

The speakers expressed condolences to and voiced solidarity with the Iranian nation and leadership over the tragic losses.

Hezbollah representative Sheikh Akram Dayyab highlighted the Iranian president and foreign minister’s support for the axis of resistance and said Iran will continue supporting resistance in the region after their martyrdom.

Abu Mujahid, an official with the Islamic Jihad movement also addressed the event, praising the Iranian martyrs’ efforts to defend the Palestinian nation.

In New York, a commemoration program was held at the Al-Khoei Islamic Center on Thursday evening.

It was attended by Iran’s permanent envoy to the United Nations and other diplomats as well as religious figures and others from different countries.

In Thailand, a ceremony was held at the Islamic Center of Thailand with the participation of Iranian Ambassador Nasreddin Heydari.

The United Nations is also planning to organize a memorial service for President Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

UN General Assembly President Dennis Francis announced this in a statement published by the UN website.

He said the memorial will be held at the UN General Assembly at 10 AM local time on May 30.

A helicopter carrying President Raisi, Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian, Friday prayers leader of Tabriz Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Al-e-Hashem, Governor of East Azarbaijan Malek Rahmati, the commander of the president’s security team, two pilots and a flight crew crashed in the northwestern province of East Azarbaijan on May 19, 2024. Their bodies were found on Monday after an extensive night-long search operation.

Iran observed five days of national mourning this week with funeral processions for the victims held in multiple cities.

President Raisi was laid to rest at Imam Reza (AS) shrine in Mashhad and Amir-Abdollahian was buried at the holy mausoleum of Hazrat Abdul Azim Hassani (AS) in Rey, south of Tehran, marking the end of days of funeral processions attended by millions of Iranians in several cities.
