Iran Presidential Hopefuls to Announce Their Quranic Plans

IQNA – Candidates running for office the 14th presidential election of Iran will elaborate on their plans in the field of Quranic activities during their campaigns.

This is according to Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Mostafa Hosseini, the secretary of the Council for Development of the Quranic Culture, speaking to IQNA about the upcoming presidential polls. 

On Sunday, Iran’s Interior Ministry released the final list of six approved candidates for the election.

A spokesman for the ministry, Mohsen Eslami, announced the names of the candidates, who were vetted and approved by the Constitutional Council, a 12-member election supervisory body.

The presidential hopefuls are Saeed Jalili, Alireza Zakani, Amir Hossein Qazizadeh Hashemi, Mostafa Pourmohammadi, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, and Masoud Pezeshkian.

Hojat-ol-Islam Hosseini told IQNA that the candidates will soon launch their election campaigns and there will also be televised debates so that people will get more familiar with them and their plans.

Based on an interaction between the Secretariat of the Council for Development of the Quranic Culture and the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), which will broadcast the presidential debates, it has been decided that the candidates will talk about their Quranic plans, among other issues, in the debates, he noted.  

He added that the opinions and questions of the country’s Quran activists will be collected in the next few days and some of them will be selected to be put to the presidential candidates.

The snap vote is slated for June 28 and will elect a new president to replace Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a tragic helicopter crash in northwestern Iran on May 19 along with Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and six of their companions.
