IQNA – A Muslim candidate from the British Labour Party, who was prevented from running in the general election scheduled for July, has resigned, citing a "hierarchy of racism" within the party as the reason for her departure.

Faiza Shaheen, a British Muslim who was slated to run for the Chingford and Woodford Green seat in the upcoming general election, has announced her resignation.

According to reports from The Independent, Shaheen's candidacy was obstructed, leading to her suspension last week due to her social media activity, which included liking posts critical of the Israeli regime’s crimes in Gaza.

The Labour National Executive Committee's confirmation of her suspension prompted Shaheen to step down, paving the way for her to potentially run as an independent against Shama Tatler, her designated replacement and a member of the Jewish Labour Movement.

Shaheen has expressed her discontent with the selection process, labeling it a "sham" and citing "spurious reasons" for her removal.

She has voiced her experience of "unfair treatment, bullying, and hostility" within the party.

"Being removed as a candidate has been cruel and devastating, especially after local voters and party members have placed so much faith in me," Shaheen stated, emphasizing her disillusionment with the party's direction and its divergence from her personal values.

The Labour Party faces accusations of conducting a "purge" of its left-wing members ahead of the July 4 election. Momentum, a left-wing faction within Labour, criticized the party's decision to "parachute in" a candidate from outside the constituency following Shaheen's departure.
