Man Arrested for Quran Desecration in Maldives

IQNA – Maldivian authorities have detained a man following Quran desecration at a mosque.

The suspect, identified as MD Mannan, a 36-year-old Bangladeshi national, was reportedly involved in biting and tearing pages of the Quran within a mosque's premises, The Edition reported on Sunday without providing further details about the location of the mosque or the date of the Quran desecration.

A local court has ordered Mannan to be held in remand for 15 days, citing substantial evidence that supports the allegations against him. The court's decision is based on a police report that confirms the act of desecration by Mannan.

Given Mannan's status as a foreign national, the court expressed concerns regarding the possibility of him fleeing the country, which has led to the decision to keep him in custody.
