Thakmeen Hussain, a resident of Finvilaage in Himmafushi, emerged as the winner of the Quran recitation contest. His performance also earned him the top spot in the newly introduced Adhan Competition, which had 40 students vying for the honor, The Edition reported on Monday.
The council recognized Thakmeen's dual accomplishments with a trophy, a certificate of commendation, an Umrah pilgrimage trip, and a cash prize of MVR 7,500.
The second-place honor was awarded to Ra'ad Inth Ahmed Habeeb of Mala, Himmafushi, who received a cash prize of MVR 16,900. Mohamed Ayan Hussain from Beach Villa secured third place, taking home MVR 10,350.
The competition also highlighted winners in two age categories: under 18 and over 18.
Hassan Faiz, President of the Himmafushi Council, expressed that the annual event aims to deepen the community's connection with the Quran and encourage the younger generation to cherish its recitation.
He also noted that the introduction of the Adhan Competition is part of a broader initiative to instill a passion for prayer in the youth.
