The competition is underway in Kazan, the capital of the Russian Republic of Tatarstan.

The representative of Egypt also had a good performance in the Kazan contest, the Quran expert said.

Shahmiveh added that the Iranian qari, Omid Hosseininejad, also had a good recitation, which was among the best in the competition.

“From what I’ve seen so far, I think the winners of the top three titles will be from  Iran, Bahrain and Yemen,” he stated.

Asked about the panel of judges, he noted that the other members of the panel include Dr Ridha Sadiq from Yemen, Yusuf al-Azhari from Bangladesh and Mohamed Maher from Egypt.

There are also two other experts, one from Russia and the other from the United Arab Emirates, he went on to say.
