IQNA – Veteran Hamas member Yahya Sinwar was named the head of the resistance movement’s political bureau after the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh.

Yahya Sinwar named the head of the Hamas resistance movement’s political bureau after the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh.

The movement said in a statement on Tuesday that Sinwar has been selected as Haniyeh’s replacement after several days of consultations, Arabi21 reported.

Sinwar was born on September 16, 1975, in Khan Younis, southern Gaza Strip.

He is a Palestinian military commander who joined Hamas’ Ezzedeen Al-Qassam Brigades at the beginning of its foundation in the Gaza Strip.

He has been known for his role in Commando operations against the Israeli regime and is now on the regime’s wanted list.

Sinwar was a key architect of the surprise Operation Al-Aqsa Storm that Hamas launched against the occupying regime in response to its decades-long campaign of oppression and devastation against Palestinians.

Haniyeh was assassinated in an attack on his residence in the early hours of July 31, in the Iranian capital Tehran.
