Iraq’s Int’l Quran Award Slated for November

IQNA – The first edition of an international Quran competition named the Iraq Quran Award will be held in the Arab country’s capital this November.

It will be organized in cooperation with the Shia and Sunni Waqf (endowment) organizations of Iraq. 

The contenders will compete in the categories of memorization and recitation of the Holy Quran.

A technical committee meeting of the Shia and Sunni Waqf organizations was held in Baghdad earlier this week.

A number of religious and Quranic officials and figures of the country were also present at the meeting.

They discussed the necessary preparations for the international Quran contest.

The first edition of the Iraq International Quran Award had been scheduled to be held in early 2024 but was postponed due to different reasons.

Quranic activities have significantly developed in Iraq since the 2003 overthrow of former dictator Saddam Hussein.
