Iraq: Young Qari Honored for Third-Place Finish in Int'l Quran Competition

IQNA – Authorities of the Astan of Imam Hussein (AS) Holy Shrine have honored a young Iraqi qari after he shined at a Quran competition in Algeria.

Sheikh Abdul-Mahdi al-Karbalai, the representative of Iraq's top Shia cleric Ayatollah Seyed Ali al-Sistani in Karbala, honored Yusuf Hussein Al-Muhanna for his achievement in the "Mazamir Dawood" International Competition.

Al-Muhanna, a young Quranic talent from Iraq, secured third place in the competition held in Algeria. The event featured 40 participants from 15 Arab and Islamic countries.

Sheikh Khayruddin al-Hadi, head of the Quranic Affairs Department at the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein (AS), praised Yusuf’s success. He emphasized the importance of recognizing such achievements, which are part of the National Memorization Project. This project supports young Quran qaris in Iraq.

Al-Hadi stated that the honoring of Yusuf by Sheikh Al-Karbalai reflects a commitment to encouraging and nurturing Quranic talents. He added that such recognition is crucial for promoting national and religious identity in Iraq.

The international Quran recitation competition was organized from August 18 to 31, by the private media channel “Echorouk”.
