IQNA – The Prophet of Islam brought a comprehensive and all-encompassing lesson for life, one of the greatest lessons being the creation of the Ummah and the formation of the Islamic community, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution said.

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei made the remarks on Friday morning in a meeting with the guests and organizers of the 38th International Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran.

The 13-year struggle of the Prophet (PBUH) in Mecca, along with the hardships, difficulties, hunger, and sacrifices of that period and the subsequent migration, laid the foundation for the establishment of the Islamic Ummah, he said.

“Today, there are many Islamic countries, and about two billion Muslims live in the world, but this collection cannot be called an "Ummah" because an Ummah is a group that moves harmoniously and motivated towards a single goal, whereas we Muslims today are divided,” he said, adding, “The result of the division among Muslims is the dominance of the enemies of Islam and the dependence of some Islamic countries on American support.”

If Muslims were not divided, they could have formed a unified entity, stronger than all major powers, and would not need to rely on America, said the Leader.

“With the formation of the Islamic Ummah, Muslims can use their inner strength to remove the malignant and evil tumor of the Zionist regime from Palestine and eliminate the intervention of America in the region,” he stressed.

Islamic governments can be influential in this regard, but their motivation is not strong; it is the duty of the elites of the Islamic world, including politicians, scholars, scientists, academics, influential and thoughtful classes, poets, writers, and political and social analysts, to create this motivation in the statesmen, Ayatollah Khamenei said.

If, for 10 years, the press of the Islamic world writes articles about Islamic unity, poets compose poems, university professors analyze, and religious scholars issue decrees, without a doubt, the situation will completely change, and with the awakening of the nations, the governments will also be compelled to move in the direction of their demands, he added.

“Creating unity and forming the Islamic Ummah has staunch enemies,” noted the Leader, adding that activating the internal fault lines of the Islamic Ummah, especially religious and sectarian fault lines, is one of the most important “hostile” tactics to prevent the formation of the Islamic Ummah.

The reason Imam Khomeini emphasized the unity of Shia and Sunni before the victory of the revolution is that the power of the Islamic world stems from unity, he noted.

Slamming the Israeli regime’s atrocities in Gaza, West Bank, Lebanon, and Syria, the Leader added, “Their targets are not warriors but ordinary people, and when they could not harm the warriors in Palestine, they vented their ignorant and malicious anger on infants, children, and hospital patients.”

“The cause of this disastrous situation is the inability of the Islamic community to use its inner strength,” he regretted.

Reiterating the need for Muslim nations to cut economic ties with the Israeli regime, Ayatollah Khamenei added, “Islamic countries should also completely weaken political relations with the Zionist regime and strengthen political and media attacks, clearly showing that they stand with the Palestinian people.”
