Hamid Reza Nasiri will represent Iran in the recitation category of the competition.
The prestigious international Quranic event opened in a ceremony in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday evening.
The competition will run through October 12, with sessions being held in the morning and evening. The memorization category takes place in the morning, while the recitation category is held in the evening.
Nasiri had been scheduled to travel to Malaysia for the competition on Wednesday but his trip was postponed due to the suspension of flights in the region.
He is now slated to leave for Kuala Lumpur on Monday.
