IQNA – Israeli air strikes on a residential building in Beit Lahiya, northern Gaza, have left at least 65 Palestinians martyred, with dozens still missing under the rubble.

The attack flattened the five-storey building early this morning, where about 100 people, including children, were believed to be sheltering, according to Al Jazeera.

At least 17 children were killed in the Israeli aggression, according to the latest tally.

Many of the victims were local residents who had been internally displaced from nearby areas, such as the Jabalia refugee camp, due to previous Israeli attacks.

Witnesses described scenes of horror, recounting that some of those killed had only arrived at the building the night before.

Initial reports confirmed 20 casualties, a toll that quickly rose to 40, then to 55, and now stands at 62, according to Al-Awda Hospital in northern Gaza.

However, the number is expected to increase as emergency teams face significant obstacles in rescuing people trapped under large concrete slabs, without proper machinery or equipment to aid in the effort.

Hussam Abu Safiya, the director-general of Kamal Adwan Hospital, has appealed for international intervention. "The world must take action and not just watch the genocide in the Gaza Strip," he told Al Jazeera, urging for specialized medical delegations to help treat the wounded.
