Seyed Ruhollah Hosseini met with Mawlawi Abdul Ahad Abed, the head of the policy-making and planning department at the Taliban’s Hajj and Awqaf ministry.
During the meeting, he stressed Iran’s keenness to expand and bolster religious and cultural interactions with Afghanistan given the extensive historical, cultural and religious commonalities between the two countries.
He also referred to the Quranic capacities of Iran and noted that the 41st edition of the country’s international Quran contest will be held in the holy city of Mashhad in February next year.
Hosseini said Quran reciters, memorizers and elite figures from various countries take part in the annual Quranic event.
Iran is keen to see the participation of representatives from Afghanistan in this competition as well, he went on to say.

The Iranian cultural envy also urged that a delegation of Afghan scholars travel to Iran to visit Sunni mosques and religious schools in the country.
The Afghan official, for his part, described the ties between Iran and Afghanistan as age-old and deep-rooted and hoped that the level of the relations between the two countries will be elevated and strengthened further.
