The competition has drawn 179 participants from 32 countries, according to Saudi media outlets.
The opening ceremony was attended by Saudi military and religious officials and began with a recitation from the Quran.
Musfer bin Hassan Al-Eisa, Director General of the Religious Affairs Department of the Saudi Armed Forces and chief supervisor of the competition, said that Saudi Arabia is committed to serving the Quran, adding that this event provides an opportunity for military personnel worldwide to compete in Quran memorization and recitation.
The ceremony also featured a documentary on the history of the competition, an exhibition, and a speech by the Chief of the General Staff of the Saudi Armed Forces.
The competition includes six categories: complete Quran memorization with recitation and tajweed, memorization of 20, 10, five, and three sections of the Quran with recitation and tajweed, as well as a category for the most beautiful recitation with tajweed.

The event will continue for 14 days.
Participants will stay in Mecca and Medina, where they will visit historical and religious sites.
Their performances will be evaluated using an electronic system called “Insaaf.”
