IQNA – An Iranian political expert and analyst said the Islamic Revolution of Iran turned resistance into the dominant discourse in the region.

Iranian political expert and analyst Seyed Sabah Zanganeh

The Iranian nation toppled the US-backed Pahlavi regime 46 years ago, ending the 2,500 years of monarchic rule in the country.

The Islamic Revolution spearheaded by the late Imam Khomeini established a new political system based on Islamic values and democracy.

Speaking to IQNA on the occasion of the 46th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution’s victory, Seyed Sabah Zanganeh said the revolution changed many of the regional equations.

The concept of resistance that stresses removing Israeli oppression and occupation became the dominant discourse in the region after the revolution and the methods of resistance also changed and became more powerful, he said.

Since the beginning, the Islamic Republic of Iran supported the Palestinian resistance against the Israeli occupation and practically displayed its political stance by turning the Israeli embassy in Tehran to Palestine, he noted.

Zanganeh added that Iran presented its ideas regarding the Palestinian issue more powerfully on the world stage and effectively thwarted the conciliatory plans of the United States or some Arab countries regarding the Palestinian issue.

He said the countries supporting the concession with Israel acted with greater animosity towards the Islamic Republic of Iran because they used the Palestinian issue to silence their own people.

“When the Palestinian resistance forces took more serious actions against the peace plans, all those plans were abandoned. In practice, the governments supporting those plans took a stance against both Iran and the resistance forces. Many Palestinian forces separated from the previous Palestinian organizations and sought more fundamental solutions.”

Asked about confronting the challenges, he said there are serious challenges facing the Islamic Revolution. “It is essential to have a correct understanding of the current global conditions; otherwise, if we do not properly comprehend the new circumstances, we will encounter more problems and limitations in design, planning, and practical actions.”
