Sheikh Abdullah Daqqaq delivered a speech to an online seminar titled “Great Imam Khomeini (RA): A Model of Change in Islamic World”, which was held on Tuesday, June 3, by the International Quran News Agency (IQNA).
He spoke about “Hajj and Development of the Muslim World’s Ideological Movement in Imam Khomeini’s (RA) Thoughts”.
Sheikh Daqqaq referred to Verse 3 of Surah At-Tawbah: “A proclamation from Allah and His Messenger, to the people on the day of the Grand Pilgrimage; 'Allah rejects, and His Messenger (rejects) the idolaters. So if you repent, that will be better for you; but if you turn your backs, know that you cannot frustrate Allah. And give glad tidings to the unbelievers of a painful punishment,” and said that in the thought of Imam Khomeini, Hajj would have no meaning without Bira’at min-al-mushrikeen (disavowal of disbelievers).
He said there is an affirmative statement and a negative statement here.
“When you say ‘There is no god but Allah’, this is a negative statement that denies divinity to anyone other than God. At the same time, there is an affirmative one, that is, you affirmatively believe in the existence of the one and unique God. Alongside this, there is also a negative aspect that rejects divinity from anyone besides the Almighty God. Hajj is an affirmative statement, which is obedience to the one God. Circumambulating the House of God and worshiping the one God—this is affirmative. There is also a negative statement, which is disassociation from polytheism and polytheists.”
The cleric also said that Hajj is the strongest symbol of unity among Muslims.
“It demonstrates the dignity, unity, and strength of Muslims in the face of global arrogance. This is because declaring disassociation from polytheists is essential.”
